The story of the soundtrack is no less intriguing. For years the stereo album of Casino Royale was one of the most collectible soundtracks to be pressed on vinyl.
Because Casino Royale was considered the finest sounding stereo album ever released, audiophiles from around the globe used it to test their high-end stereo equipment.
The original stereo vinyl album still is highly collectible in mint condition. With the advent of the compact disc, Casino Royale became one of the most anticipated soundtracks to come out on CD but when Varese Sarabande finally released it in the reviews from audiophiles and music magazines were very poor.
The CD did not sound as crisp as the album and there were more than a few audible anomalies present. This was due to iron oxide lost during Varese Sarabande's handling of the original master tapes; the tapes were fast-forwarded and rewound using high-speed equipment and irreplaceable iron oxide flaked off.
This was an unfortunate and, mostly, unforeseen accident since no one in really knew about or practiced archival handling of magnetic tape.
Unfortunately, the master tapes were permanently damaged. Varese tried digitally repairing the sound for their release; they fixed some of the right channel fuzz but the sound quality did not match the original stereo vinyl release.
Even though the original damaged tapes were used, Kritzerland took the time and care to digitally correct the problems Varese missed the second time around.
Not only does the CD sound great, the music is placed in the same order as heard in the film. For the first time on CD, Kritzerland includes the music that was missing from the two previous releases, including the vocal version of Casino Royale heard during the end credit sequence this alone makes the Kritzerland version invaluable.
In addition to better sound and the complete score, Kritzerland includes a direct transfer from an unplayed vinyl copy of the original stereo Casino Royale album!!!
These guys really care about archiving cinematic sounds and they leave no stone unturned with this release.
Casino Royale is my favorite soundtrack and Kritzerland's version blows all the other releases out of the water. I have this on vinyl, and 2 other versions on CD.
This has the best sound of the bunch. A great soundtrack that brings back alot of memories of the mid-to-late 's!

Julian Pope Top Contributor: Prime Video Verified Purchase. Of course the initial controversy was that a blonde actor was going to be portraying for the first time ever, those skepticisms soon died after the release of Casino Royale.
Martin Campbell director of Goldeneye returns to helm this multi-layered, action packed, story-driven Bond experience and pulls out all the stops.
In something of a soft reboot, we finally get to see what it was like for just starting out. We see an array of emotions and reactions that we are not used to seeing in the other entries that feature a more seasoned agent.
Casino Royale set the new standard of greatness after the series had just come off of it's worst movie of the franchise with "Die Another Day", and laid out a path of what the Bond for a new generation would be like.
Craig proved to be worth his weight in gold as an actor of James Bond and someone willing to do many of his own stunts to provide an added element of realism.
If the James Bond franchise had to be rebooted, this was the way to do it. Daniel Craig gives the character a sense of deadliness not sensed since the Timothy Dalton days.
As much as I liked Connery, Moore, and Brosnan, and all delivered good performances, none of them seemed like sudden death with a bad attitude.
For a government assassin, such an attitude would be helpful. Daniel Craig sells that attitude convincingly. From the very start where he coolly terminates a traitor, to the very end where shoots a foe through the leg when it is clear he didn't have to, you know this Bond is cool about the job of dealing death.
I think of it as three movies in one. It starts as an action flick, segues into a cool spy mode with a very relaxed and long lasting poker tournament, and then gets back to the action again.
Although this movie does have scenes that remind you of the book, it is not a close cover of the book in the way the first few Connery movies were.
Altogether quite enjoyable, and closer to the way I perceived Bond as I read the books than most of the other Bond actors managed.
The DVD presentation meets current standards well. The picture is bright and sharp, and the sound quality is outstanding.
If you liked this film in the theater, you won't be disappointed with the DVD. I, like many, feared for the future of the franchise.
None the less I can definitively say that Daniel Craig's performance in this movie may very well be the best Bond ever on the big screen.
He hits a much needed reset in the series and the focus departs from the gadgets and the girls and more so on the man and the struggle to adapt to his new "Double Oh" status.
Starting off with plenty of action it strikes a perfect balance in the course of the movie. Add some perfectly choreographed fight scenes, a record breaking car roll-over scene, and the mental game between he and Mads Mikkelsen over the tables, and there is simply nothing not to love about this film.
The closing scene where proffers forth his first utterance of the iconic "Bond. This collectors edition is packaged nicely and includes some nice extras to help one grasp the depth that Ion Productions took to modernize the Bond series and make Daniel Craig the new face of MI6.
I'm a Bond fan through and through, and have always considered the Sean Connery Bond movies to be the best.
But there is just something about Casino Royale, and they way Daniel Craig brought out a side of Bond we'd never seen, that have made this my favorite Bond movie of all time.
Many will disagree about calling this the best Bond film ever, but I doubt that anyone who truly understands the Bond franchise would disagree that this is among the best Bond films, and is very worthy of the Bond heritage.
Carries on the Bond tradition wonderfully. We actually saw this first Daniel Craig movie last out of the Daniel Craig movies, and boy did that clear up a lot of stuff!
Excellent movie, made even more so by all the questions it answered. Will watch it over and over again.
